About Dakshinpara Durgotsab Committee

ABOUT US

Dakshinpara Durgotsab Committee has been celebrating Durga Puja with devotion, culture, and community spirit for more than 60 years. Being not only a festival, our puja is a symbol of unity, tradition, and joy. With Maa Durga’s blessings, we continue to bring people together in celebration and service.

Upholding the spiritual essence of Maa Durga, we keep our tradition alive by preserving the cultural roots while embracing the modern creations as well.

We create a vibrant cultural platform that inspires collaborative participation and engagement, to blend heritage with contemporary expressions, to make our pujo a memorable experience for all.

We encourage collective participation to strengthen unity through social initiatives that serve humanity with compassion. We believe in building bonds of unity, togetherness, and harmony.

We aim to set new standards in organizing Durga Puja to spread the cultural essence of Bengal beyond boundaries, to keep our roots alive globally. Therefore, each and every year we strive to make our puja meaningful, memorable, and impactful.

OUR VISION

UNESCO's recognition has pushed us to take the responsibility to carry on the legacy of being intangible and to churn out art works year after year to maintain the consistency to keep up with the global standards. Therefore, each and every year our projection and planning not only prioritizes the oncoming native audience but also the worldwide viewers. Therefore, this online web platform becomes moreso relevant for universal accessibility.

Keep supporting us as always. We will continue to celebrate the festival with enthusiasm and fervour, practicing cultural heritage and maintaining communal harmony amongst our social community.

KASTURI CHOWDHURY

(Chief Advisor, Dakshinpara Durgotsab Committee)

First of all, holding the post of Chairperson of South Dum Dum Municipality, it was already a big task to manage the overall hassles to maintain the smooth and peaceful movement of crowd in my area throughout the puja as Dum Dum Park is one of the prime locations for pandal hoppers. Now given the responsibility of being the chief advisor for this committee, it gives me immense pride to contribute to the overall growth of this puja moreso as it is located near my residence. I enjoy the added pressure because it only enriches the regional cultural practice and encourages community involvement for overall social welfare. During the last few years the puja has made a name for itself and 'Dakshinpara' has become a must visit destination for pandal hoppers. Therefore it motivates the local people to engage themselves to do their respective bit to expand the stature of the overall puja. I also look forward to associate myself further to maintain the standard of this puja and do justice to the overall global recognition of Durga Puja from UNESCO.

RAJIB CHOWDHURY

(President, Dakshinpara Durgotsab Committee)

Undoubtedly, Durga Puja is the biggest example of community art practice for us. It is an opportunity for the local residents and club members to involve themselves into the festive spirit and to exercise our rich cultural heritage. Although it is added responsibility for me being given the role of the president, I thoroughly enjoy every bit of it. The most important thing for me about Durga Puja is that a large number of people earn their livelihood even if for a temporary period by getting associated with the various facets of a puja pandal and the rituals. It is more relevant nowadays to setup a intricately organized puja because of the recent global recognition from UNESCO. So, I look forward to present and conduct a well planned and thought-out puja each and every year to maintain our standards, to mesmerize the viewers, to leave a mark on the map of Kolkata's Durga Puja Art.
